The Clarinet Companion course has been designed so that someone with no previous knowledge of music can learn to play the clarinet and read music. If you have already followed the free Lesson 1 you will have seen how simple and detailed the instructions are, if you haven't tried this yet follow the link below.
The first 2 lessons teach you how to put the clarinet together, play the first notes, how to read music and how to care for your clarinet. These two lessons can be mastered in about one week. Thereafter each lesson is designed to take about a month, but it really is up to you as to how quickly you progress through the course.
The grading system is based upon the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music which is the most widely used worldwide.
The level of difficulty is graded throughout so that each stage leads naturally on to the next, gradually building your knowledge base and skill. Most tutor books simply show a picture of the clarinet in sections and/or put together without any detail. It is important to handle the instrument properly so that you do not damage it when assembling the different parts. These comprehensive instructions will enable you to start playing with confidence.
Once you have paid for a grade you will receive, via e-mail, your personal user name and password which will give you access to the course. The course is designed to work on your internet browser and has the sound files embedded where required. The written music is available to download and/or print so you can practise material already covered without having to go online. You can also save any sound files you want for future reference onto your own computer.
The following sound files will give you an idea of the standard you will reach by the end of Grade 1.
